Lakeshore Veterinary Specialists is offering the unique opportunity of a 12.5 month focused internship in emergency and critical care scheduled to start July 8, 2013. The large case load offers many opportunities for the intern to gain intensive experience in emergency stabilization and diagnostic procedures, medical and surgical definitive care of the critical patient, critical care monitoring, and nutritional support. Interns are strongly encouraged to participate in on-going research projects and community services. Supervising faculty provide over 31 years of combined experience in the specialty of emergency and critical care medicine. Our practice includes board certified specialists in emergency and critical care (2), surgery (4), internal medicine (3), oncology (1), dentistry (1), dermatology (1), as well as rehabilitation and acupuncture (1). Off-site consulting staff includes a radiologist and an ophthalmologist. Our team also includes three emergency veterinarians with a combined 38 years of dedicated emergency experience and a highly skilled technical staff that includes certified VTS (ECC) (Anesthesia) technicians. The faculty members enjoy teaching and will devote considerable time to the house staff seminar series on topics including cardiac, pulmonary, neurologic, endocrine, gastrointestinal, oncologic, internal medicine, exotic and avian medicine, and surgical emergencies. Daily clinical rounds, faculty presentations, house staff presentations, journal club discussions, resident projects, and discussions pertaining to client relations and business practice management and are integral parts of this learning experience.
The hospital is fully equipped with Eklin digital radiography, ultrasound, CT, MR, therapeutic ventilators, endoscopy (flexible and rigid), integrated PACS system, hydrotherapy, shockwave and laser therapy, complete in-house integrated laboratory as well as comprehensive patient monitoring systems. We are supported by a wonderful group of referring veterinarians who are committed to a team approach to veterinary medicine.
