Specialized Internship in Veterinary Neurology

Job Description

Neurology internship position available at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island. 

Seeking a candidate with a special interest in neurology or who wishes to pursue a neurology residency.  Candidates will help provide continuity of care to the clients and patients of the neurology service. The intern will be mentored and trained by a board-certified neurologist responsible for supervision and overall clinical performance evaluation. This NY State Accredited internship involves all aspects of patient care including assistance with cases in medical neurology and neuro-surgery, initiating, staging and work up of neurology cases, case rechecks and continuity of care when specialists are off service, paperwork and case discharges.

The Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island is a busy referral and emergency practice in Long Island, NY. We are located on the South Shore of Long Island, between the pristine beaches of the Hamptons, and the four star restaurants, museums, and eclectic culture of New York City. We finished building and opened our current 18,000 square foot state of the art hospital in August of 2004, which operates 24 hours a day. Our departments include Avian and Exotics, Dentistry and Oral Surgery, Emergency and Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Surgery, Neurology, Dermatology & Physical Therapy. Our treatment capabilities include twelve examination rooms, two surgical suites, a separate ICU, two radiology suites, Digital Radiography, an Ultrasound suite, an Endoscopy suite, in-house MRI, and in-house CT scan.

Education opportunities include in-house NY State / RACE Accredited CE lectures, membership in our local VMA with monthly lectures, neurology journal club, specialty service rounds, Morbidity/Mortality Rounds, Emergency lecture series, and Intern Grand Rounds. Interns are also invited to attend CE that is offered regularly by our hospital to the veterinary community.

Candidates are required to have completed a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program and be licensed in New York State.
