The Auburn University Veterinary Teaching Hospital provides state-of-the-art veterinary care and serves as a referral hospital and community practice facility to communities throughout Alabama and neighboring states. With board-certified specialists and a nationally renowned faculty, clients of the teaching hospital benefit from the combined expertise of specialists utilizing a team-based approach to patient health care. 

Strong relationships with referring veterinarians foster the very best care for both patients and clients. Challenging cases that require comprehensive diagnostics, imaging or therapies are sent to the hospital by referring veterinarians and this relationship ensures that animals receive the benefit of the latest clinical trials, research and treatment protocols available. 

The veterinary teaching hospital is divided into the Small Animal Teaching Hospital (companion animals) and the Large Animal Teaching Hospital (equine and farm animals).

Clinical Services

  • Community Practice - A full-service wellness care clinic providing preventive care and basic sick care for pets of the general public within a 25-mile radius. Although referrals are not necessary, clients still must contact the hospital to schedule an appointment. 
  • Dermatology - Comprehensive care for animals with skin and ear disorders. 
  • Emergency and Critical Care - Emergency veterinary care for animals with urgent or serious conditions. 
  • Internal Medicine - Diagnostic care and evaluation of animals with various medical conditions. 
  • Oncology - Comprehensive treatment for animals with cancer and hematologic diseases. 
  • Neurology and Neurosurgery - Medical and surgical care for animals with neurological conditions. 
  • Orthopedic Surgery - Surgical care and rehabilitation for animals with orthopedic conditions. 
  • Soft Tissue and Oncologic Surgery - General surgical care and surgical oncology services for companion animals. 
  • Radiology Services including Computed Tomography, Digital Radiology, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Therapy with Linear Accelerator, Ultrasound

Regular office hours are from 7:45 until 4:45 pm (central time) Monday through Friday. Saturday and Sunday appointments are NOT available. The AU-Small Animal Teaching Hospital follows the official Auburn University holiday schedule. Phone:(334) 844-4690
Equine and Farm Animal
Equine and farm animals are seen by board-certified specialists and residents in medicine, surgery, reproduction, and anesthesia. Regular appointments are available, with or without a referral from your regular veterinarian during business hours:
7:45 a.m. until 4:45 p.m. 
Monday through Friday (except university holidays).
Emergency cases are seen 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This is a full service hospital providing state-of-the-art, round-the-clock care to all patients.
