QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum qualifications include a PhD degree in Immunology or an allied discipline and a strong record of scholarly research achievement in disciplines such as immunogenomics and disease resistance, cellular immune mechanisms and/or cytokine/chemokine signaling mechanisms. Candidates should possess good interpersonal and written communication skills and the ability to participate in graduate training.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be expected to direct a strong independent, extramurally funded research program, serve as the major professor for PhD candidates in Immunology and participate in graduate training programs.  Opportunities to teach in the veterinary professional curriculum will be available, particularly for an individual with a DVM degree (or equivalent).  At least 70-80% of the individual's effort will be directed toward scholarly research activities.
 
SCOPE OF DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES: Current departmental research programs include aquatic pathobiology, molecular virology and bacteriology, molecular diagnostics, food safety, pathogen detection, basic and applied immunology, parasitology, platelet pathophysiology, molecular genetics, oncology, pathogenetic mechanisms of infectious diseases, embryo-pathogen interactions, epidemiology, poultry pathology and neuropathology. Diagnostic services include anatomic and clinical pathology, parasitology, microbiology and virology. Research facilities in the Pathobiology department include electron microscopy, flow cytometry, cell culture, and quantitative PCR laboratories.  Genomics and hybridoma core facilities are also available.
 
APPOINTMENT: Appointment will be in the Dept of Pathobiology in association with the Auburn University Peak of Excellence in Cell and Molecular Biosciences.  Starting salary and appointment will be commensurate with professional and academic credentials and experience.  Nine month appointment with opportunity for summer employment.
