Dr. Calvin Johnson honored as “Mentor of the Year”

Dr. Calvin Johnson, department head and professor of pathology in the Department of Pathobiology at the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine, is named “Mentor of the Year” by the Student Chapters of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP). His award was announced during the ACVP Annual Meeting in Seattle, Washington held Dec. 1-5.
Dr. Johnson served as advisor to the Auburn Student Chapter of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists speaking to the club about careers in veterinary pathology and how to successfully obtain internships, externships, and residencies. “Dr. Johnson has benefited me so much in regards to my veterinary school experience, as well as my future aspirations in research and pathology,” said third-year veterinary student and Auburn Student Chapter ACVP President Tiffany Peterson.
Dr. Johnson recently led Peterson and four other students on a pathology tour which included the Tifton (Ga.) Diagnostic and Investigational Laboratory, University of Florida College of Veterinary Pathology Department, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Dr. Johnson, who received his D.V.M. from Auburn University in 1986, is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. He instructs senior veterinary students in diagnostic pathology, participates in resident training, and mentors graduate students in experimental pathology. He previously served as acting dean of the college for 15 months beginning in June 2011.
